Re: The Official "Skills Update Is Coming" Thread
Could be a tanking affliction as well.
Something like where if you afflict them with berserk, They switch to auto attack, their physical str increases, defense lowers and only attack the person who afflicted them with it.

Re: The Official "Skills Update Is Coming" Thread
Berserk, unfortunately, is a ''classic" affliction. Causing the afflicted to attack allies, or even randomly would turn it into something that would contradict a player's expectation.
Many games have sequences early on that 'train' the player in certain concepts so that they're familiar to them later. For instance, working with locked doors, so they know how to recognize without thinking what marks a locked door, and how to use certain gameplay mechanics instinctively when the game becomes less forgiving.
In this case, certain afflictions have been trained by decades of RPGs using the mechanic similarly. Berserk always causes a player to attack randomly, in the same way that 'Silence' always disables spells.
I'm not sure it would be a good idea to introduce confusion by contradicting everything the player's ever experienced in using afflictions through games like Final Fantasy and all of the FF series' cousins.

Re: The Official "Skills Update Is Coming" Thread
Well my "classic" experience with berserk has always been Increase damage, lower defense. Its always been that affliction that you really don't want to give an enemy, unless your a hardy tank. Its also been a bit of a mage crusher. Which of course is why I'm kinda curious why there isn't the other classic status effects like blind and poison. Though, in that matter, Charm ime (in my experience) is working as it classically should right now. :P (Basically.. Not.) course there is a wiki article that has everything on status effects. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Status_effectThe freeze in it would be a little.. too much though.

My experience with berserk was usually the same, except that it made it impossible to select your attack or your target - you attacked the enemy indiscriminately.
Charm's targeting was . . .more brutal.

Oh! Charm could be broken if the afflicted victim was to get hit.

Re: The Official "Skills Update Is Coming" Thread
I've taken over some of the responsibility for getting things done, while Troupe was busy recording, and sadly, amidst moving, computer troubles, cell phone troubles, lease troubles, identification troubles, and now moving again to house-sit, (I'll be here for about 20 days,) not much has gotten done.
Lurkily needs a vacation.
Progress has been steady, though, if only in my head, and hopefully I can get a phone call going sometime, and sort out a lot of stuff that's currently floating in my head, and then drill ahead further and get a lot done.
It's also helpful that I now have Firefox and Excel on a portable USB drive, so I can boot up my personal copy with my own plugins, extensions, bookmarks and configurations anywhere I go. So I'm hoping that no matter what happens in the near future, I'll be able to keep this thing rolling, and make some steady progress.

Re: The Official "Skills Update Is Coming" Thread
I've read through this thread, but not all of the forums on the issues i have, so please forgive me if i'm rehashing old news.
First and foremost my biggest pleasures in mmo's are support and/or healing classes. That being said my first pvp toon was a human cleric, as i experimented and got info from other players i soon realized that the most efficient way to play it was to stack up regen and afflicts and run a tank basically. My grief was that i could not increase my heals much at all. I have played other characters and see that dmg can increase with almost no bounds, while my heals stay capped at less than 100 health. I realize that healers should never be able to sit there and heal 10k a round, but at the same time i would still like to see my heals being worth the 35 skill points i've dumped in them.
Secondly, there is a lot of talk about afflicts from the forums, and me personally, think that traditional afflicts are fine. But i think they are very underpowered. Several classes have the abilities to remove afflictions but with the 2 turn length of the afflicts it is pointless to use them. I would suggest lengthening the term of the afflicts that make these classes that have afflict cures actually worth the skill points. These classes would now be very valuable and sought after.
I have more but scrubs is on...

Re: The Official "Skills Update Is Coming" Thread
Agreed, agreed, and agreed. Afflictions right now are not really traditional - many simply do not function, while others function a little differently than usual. This is one reason they need fixage. Also, Afflictions are required for the new race/class stuff, because some of the skills are operating under the assumption that these afflictions will be worthwhile. If they aren't, or if they're too strong, these races or classes will be under or overpowered.
Healing, I totally agree with. There should be some interesting options for healers, with some interesting choices to make.
